CRC-EVANS PIPELINE EQUIPMENT INTRODUCES ADVANTAGE HYDRAULIC WEDGE MANDREL |
(11.9.07) – Tulsa,Oklahoma – CRC-Evans Pipeline Equipment is announcing the introduction of a mandrel designed to boost pull-cycle productivity by as much as 20 percent. The Advantage mandrel requires only a single bending machine operator, who simply pushes a button on his control panel. The self-powered mandrel quickly and automatically finds its correct position relative to the die without a reach rod, eliminating the guesswork and safety issues that go with standard manual placement. The operator makes the pull, the pipe is advanced, and the job continues. “Automatic centering means that the cycle times get shorter and jobs move faster,” said Fred Lysak, Pipeline Equipment division president. “Setting the pace ahead of the welding crews, especially on long pipelines, means that a contractor can get the pipeline bent and built faster.” The chances of wrinkles and buckles at bends are greatly reduced because the new mandrel’s advanced technology ensures that it is perfectly positioned for every pull, enabling accurate, quality bends every time. Since the process is completely automatic, it can be easily and quickly repeated until the bend is complete. And with no reach rod involved, loading can be done from either the pin-up or stiff-back end, for greater flexibility of access. This improves performance where the right of way is narrow. “The Advantage is an important step in mandrel design,” said Lysak. “When you combine quality results, safer operation, and higher productivity in one piece of equipment, it’s going to make a difference in the pipeline industry.” CRC-Evans Pipeline Equipment builds and distributes one of the most complete line of pipeline construction equipment, including pipe bending machines, ditch padding equipment, pipe handling and support equipment, pipe facing and beveling machines, internal line-up clamps, and laybarge and coating plant equipment. The company is a subsidiary of CRC-Evans Pipeline International, a leading provider of specialized equipment and services for the construction of pipelines. CRC-Evans manufactures pipeline construction equipment and automatic welding systems, and provides field joint coating, weighting, heat treatment, and inspection services. Based in Houston, CRC-Evans maintains offices in North America, Europe, and the Middle East.

CRC-EVANS AUTOMATIC WELDING EQUIPMENT SPECIFIED FOR MAJOR PIPELINE PROJECT IN WALES AND ENGLAND
Houston, Texas – CRC-Evans Automatic Welding is supplying equipment for a major pipeline project under construction in the Welsh and English countryside. Following a 122-mile (196 km) route from Felindre, near Swansea in South Wales, to Tirley, Gloucestershire, the pipeline runs from a new compression station at Felindre to a new pressure reduction installation at Tirley, where it connects with the existing gas pipeline network. National Grid is the owning company. |
Because a sixteen-mile section of the route must pass through the scenic Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales, careful routing and environmental impact assessment took place from October 2004 to summer 2006, while consent and land acquisition extended from winter 2005 to February 2007. Construction on this section began in February 2007. When completed, the entire project will deliver twenty percent of the gas needed to meet UK consumption levels. |

For the Brecon to Hay on Wye portion of the pipeline (35 km), PPS Pipeline Services is working on the project as subcontractor to Murphy Pipelines, Ltd. Murphy will complete 73 km of the pipeline from Hay on Wye to Tirley. Specifications are for 48-inch diameter pipe with wall thicknesses of 15.9 mm and 22.9 mm. Murphy and PPS are using the full CRC-Evans Automatic Welding system with the P260 external welder, to provide tip-to-work tracking, 32-pass programmable welding, and position-based parameter control. CRC-Evans Automatic Welding designs and builds automatic welding systems for land or offshore pipeline construction. In addition to renting or selling these systems to contractors, the division provides other specialized services such as engineering, on-site technicians, and training. The company is a subsidiary of CRC-Evans Pipeline International, a leading provider of specialized equipment and services for the construction of pipelines. CRC-Evans manufactures pipeline-construction equipment and automatic welding systems, and provides field joint coating, weighting, heat treatment, and inspection services. Based in Houston, CRC-Evans maintains offices in North America, Europe, and the Middle East. The early stages of another X80 project in the UK. This is the start mainline welding of 48” X80 for Murphy in South Wales UK.
