Injection Molded Polypropylene (IMPP)

The oil, gas and petroleum related industries involve the processing of increasing amounts of thermal energy. Thermal insulation is installed to Hydro Carbon pipes in order to maintain the required flow rates, optimize productivity and reduce processing costs. This has led to the development of new and innovative thermal insulation systems, which in addition to improved thermal efficiencies, will lead to improved energy savings and reduced environmental impact.

PIH is an experienced field joint coating contractor and has developed the Injection Molded Polypropylene Coating System (IMPP), the system is based on proven technology, providing excellent thermal insulation values offering the same overall U-value as the rest of the factory coating. Following the installation of thermally insulated pipes at the project location, thermal insulation is then applied to the welded joint area, in order to maintain the integrity and thermal properties of the pipe system. The system injection molded polypropylene (PP) and has been designed to be fully compatible with the line pipe coating. The injection molding process can be applied both in spoolbase and offshore environments both in S-lay and J-lay configurations.

The IMPP system has been through rigorous testing programmes to demonstrate the high integrity of the system amongst others these include;

• Small scale bend test

• Full scale bend test

• Impact test
